Franconia Sculpture Park Field Trip

October 2, 2025

Students from Media Arts, Spanish 2, Plein Air Painting and Drawing, and Material Manipulation classes took a field trip to Franconia Sculpture Park on Thursday, October 2, 2025. Also on the field trip were there instructors: Khalid Ali, Media Arts Instructor; Sarah York, Spanish Instructor; Lindsey Schmitt, Visual Arts Instructor; and Kate Vinson, Visual Arts Instructor. The purpose of the field trip was to observe and make art at a site-specific location and experience making art outside the classroom while viewing professional artists’ artwork. Students practiced on field sketching, photography, and filmmaking.

Kate Vinson reflected on the experience. “It was a beautiful fall day to explore unique perspectives, field opportunities for hands-on lessons in drawing and visual language, and support collaborative, interdisciplinary connections between a variety of creative arts classes.”

Franconia Sculpture Park is the pre-eminent, artist-centered sculpture park in the Midwest. Founded in 1996, Franconia provides physically and intellectually wide-open spaces that inspire new ways of thinking through access to contemporary sculpture, installation, and land art.
