musical THEATER

As part of the Theater department, Perpich is premiering a two-year musical theater track in the 2021-2022 school year.

This new track will enhance students’ overall knowledge of the art form and the skills within the ‘triple threat’ requirements of musical theater – acting, singing, and movement. This will be an intensive and prescribed program which may include after school and some weekend commitments for additional program enhancement.

PLEASE NOTE: Only incoming Juniors will be accepted to this program due to the time needed to complete all proposed requirements of the program.

This program is being designed as a pre-professional program for those students who are interested in pursuing a post-secondary education in musical theater or working as a professional performer.

Audition requirements: In addition to the elements for the theater program audition, students interested in the musical theater track will need to complete both a vocal audition and a movement/dance audition. The vocal audition will require the prospective students to present a memorized performance of a selection from the musical theater canon. The movement/dance audition will be a movement combination that will assess the prospective students’ knowledge and/or ability to perform the basic musical theater movement vocabulary.

“Perpich is the best school for me because it provides a diverse student population, artistic environment and academic opportunities that can’t be found anywhere else in the state.”

Erika Beal, Literary Arts Student from Plymouth

“My teachers encourage me to push myself outside of my comfort zone and to always strive to better my art, never settling for good enough.”

Regan Dockery, Theater Student from Sartell

"Perpich is providing me with the opportunity to develop my art, and fulfill a potential which I might never have on my own. I decided to come to Perpich because I was an ugly duckling, and I’m glad I did because now I’m flying with the swans."

Naftalia Rose, Literary Arts Student from Crystal

"For 17 years I’d carried the bulk of my children’s education myself. Sending the two oldest away to Perpich was a huge step of faith and I have not been disappointed. The teachers, in particular, have been fabulous!"

Merri Mickelson, Parent

"[Perpich] was a hugely formative experience for me and I think gave me many of the tools to get to this point of, as you said, doing meaningful work that I love."

Andrew Edman, ‘05, Visual Arts
